Goings-on

year 2008 | up page

By April, 2004 the Hospice had existed for 10 years. For the majority of the time, it was the only stationary hospice in Opole Province, together with other numerous hospices looking after their patients at their homes. Nowadays, there are some other palliative centers but still it has been the only one that is not only stationary but also its patients are taken care of at their homes.

Hospitium (Latin) means hospitality. In the old days, a hospice used to be an equivalent to a shelter for travellers.

What this is hospicjum

year 2008 | up page

Later, it was used in a wider context referring to nursing houses, hostels and finally hospitals. These days, a hospice is a special hospital of unique character. It is for the people who are dying, with incurable diseases especially with cancer. It is for the people who cannot be cured efficiently by doctors any more - they are ''only'' to die. That is why, an average passer-by looking at a hospice sighs and thinks: a house of living ghosts. But we want to change this image. Welcome to our website.
